Venous Exploration
Colour Doppler Venous Ultrasound
Venous examination is the gold standard for diagnosis of venous disease. Duplex colour Doppler scan is essential in establishing an accurate diagnosis which is the only way to assure the most effective treatment.
It is usually performed during the initial consultation. We use a high definition 3D digital colour doppler ultrasound machine. This is a painless and non-invasive exploration; there are no needles or catheters inserted into veins or arteries.
Duplex scanning allows the examiner to visualize the venous system in real time, identify individual veins and test them selectively. The analysis of the blood flow in the veins shows the precise location of the leaking valves. Ultrasound exploration can also determine the size, location of the diseased vein and its various branches and connections. As with any ultrasonographic technique, the expertise of the examining specialist is of great importance.
At the end of the exploration a complete mapping of the venous system will be obtained allowing a treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs.
